FAQ's
1) Is Elaine Olson, Ph.D. certified for counseling and psychotherapy?
Yes, Elaine is a member of the OACCPP Mental Health Professionals for counseling and is certified for psychotherapy.
2) Are Elaine's services covered by my insurance company or Employee Assistance Program?
The cost of counseling may be reimbursed if your employer has provided you with an Extended Medical Benefits plan that insures professional counseling services. Many of Elaine's clients have this coverage. However, your private coverage is a contract between the company and yourself and not with the counselor. Payment is the sole responsibility of the client. Reimbursement is not guaranteed. Every insurance company has its own policies. To confirm that coverage is available to you consult your insurer's representative. It is important to note that the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) does not cover counseling services.
3) What can I expect in the first counseling session?
During the first session, Elaine will explain in full, her credentials, counseling methods and privacy policy. You will be asked a few questions to understand your history and present situation. Then you will be able to tell your story. A few more questions may be asked for clarification of your personal experience and to understand your expectations for counseling. You may be asked to fill out one or two assessment questionnaires to allow more accurate snapshot of your current situation.
It's common to be nervous about the first session. Here's what one of Elaine's clients has said about their first meeting.
"I was very nervous to come alone for counseling. However, Elaine was very personal and approachable. Her office is a very comfortable setting and I found it easy to relax."
4) How long are the counseling sessions?
Please reserve 1.25 hours for the first session and 50 minutes for subsequent sessions. Should you feel it is necessary to have more time for a particular session, you must indicate your requirement when your session is scheduled. Frequency of the sessions will be discussed during your first counseling session, typically three sessions are needed. The need for additional sessions will be agreed on if necessary.
5) What are the fees for counseling?
The 50 minute session fees are in line with standards suggested by the OACCPP and include the cost of all assessments administered. There is a higher fee for the first session and other scheduled sessions that extend beyond the regular session time of 50 minutes. For further information please call or email.
6) What if I have to cancel my appointment?
